Co-Chairs' Statement on the ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (ARMMSTI)

The ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (ARMMSTI) was held virtually on 14 February 2023. H.E. Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications of Brunei Darussalam and H.E. Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, co-chaired the Meeting.
We recalled the milestones and achievements of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations over the course of 26 years, including the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership in 2023, and reaffirmed the intention to strengthen the strategic partnership between the ASEAN Member States and the Russian Federation in STI in order to achieve sustainable economic development in the region.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.
