Forced labour / Freedom from slavery is non-negotiable

ILO - International Labour Organization - 4/2/2021 2:10:00 PM

With the target now met of 50 ratifications of the ILO Forced Labour Protocol, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Kailash Satyarthi, says he refuses to accept that modern slavery cannot be eliminated.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Kailash Satyarthi : "Freedom from slavery is non-negotiable"

The 50 for Freedom campaign reached its initial target of gathering 50 ratifications of the 2014 ILO Protocol on Forced Labour. It is a legally binding treaty that requires governments to take effective measures to tackle forced labour in all its forms, to prevent forced labour, protect victims and ensure they have access to justice and compensation. 25 million women, men and children are in forced labour. Every country is affected.

Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and 50 for Freedom supporter, knows that it is within our collective power to eradicate modern slavery and calls on us all to act: "We, together, should pledge to make slavery a history. We should be the last generation who is witnessing slavery. We will do it."
