Chinese Taipei initiates WTO dispute complaint against Indian tech tariffs

WTO - World Trade Organization - 9/12/2019 3:37:24 PM

Chinese Taipei has requested dispute consultations with India regarding duties imposed by India on imports of certain information and communications technology (ITC) goods. The request was circulated to WTO members on 9 September.

Chinese Taipei claims India has imposed duties on eleven categories of ITC products in excess of India's bound duty rates for the goods.

What is a request for consultations?

The request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO. Consultations give the parties an opportunity to discuss the matter and to find a satisfactory solution without proceeding further with litigation. After 60 days, if consultations have failed to resolve the dispute, the complainant may request adjudication by a panel.
