Paris Plages 2016

From July 20th, head to the City Hall plaza, the banks of the Seine, or the Bassin de la Villette to enjoy summer on the beach in Paris.


For one month, Paris Plages ("Paris Beaches") will allow all Parisians and visitors to take full advantage of the holidays and to experience summer in the capital differently. This annual free event - open every day from 9am to midnight - will take place in front of the City Hall, on the Georges-Pompidou expressway and at the Bassin de la Villette.

Here are some of the highlights to look forward to this year:

At the Hotel de Ville plaza and the Pompidou expressway

From July 20th to August 21th

The pedestrianised Georges-Pompidou expressway will be fully transformed into a seaside resort, complete with sand, deckchairs and palm trees. A varied programme of cultural activities will be on offer until August 21th on this kilometer-long stretch.

Sports-enthusiasts will be able to choose from Tai Chi, dancing, table football or boules on the banks of the Seine, and younger Parisians and visitors have not been forgotten either. As every year, a full programme of children's activities and events have been planned, including sandcastle workshops, sporting activities.


Bassin de la Villette

From July 20th to August 21th

Pedalos, electric boats, water-walking balls, sailboats and rowing boats will all be on offer at the largest artificial lake in Paris. Several different sports are available on dry land too, including football, Tai Chi, archery, badminton, street tennis and frisbee golf.
