Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers' Telephone Talk

On January 27th, commencing at 12:25 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, upon request from the U.S. side, held a telephone talk with the Honorable John F. Kerry, Secretary of State of the United States of America, in light of the hostage incident of Japanese individuals in Syria. The outline of the talk is as follows.

1. Secretary Kerry mentioned the hostage incident of Japanese individuals in Syria, and stated a sense of solidarity with Japan, and he highly appreciates Japan's efforts to peace and stability of the Middle East region.

2. In response, Foreign Minister Kishida expressed gratitude towards the statements of solidarity from the U.S. Government including those of President Obama and Secretary Kerry, and stated that the Government of Japan will, in its entirety, do its utmost for the release of the captured Japanese.

3. They shared the recognition that they will not succumb to terrorism, and will continue to work together with the international community for the peace and stability of the world.
