Douglas Boyd appointed music director of l'Orchestre de chambre de Paris

Douglas Boyd's appointment as new music director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris will strengthen its position as a leading chamber music orchestra and support its unique artistic approach and socially responsible initiatives.

The City of Paris, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication - DRAC Ile-de-France and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris have appointed Douglas Boyd as music director designate as of 1st July 2014. He takes up the position officially on 1 st July 2015.


Douglas Boyd began his musical career as an oboist becoming a founder member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Since taking up the conductor's baton he has held the positions of Music Director of Manchester Camerata, Chief Conductor of Musikkollegium Winterthur and Artistic Director of Garsington Opera as well as Principal Guest Conductor of Colorado Symphony Orchestra and City of London Sinfonia and Artistic Partner of Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He is a regular guest conductor of major orchestras and ensembles throughout the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, North America, The Far East and Australia.

As music director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Douglas Boyd will direct 7 to 8 concerts annually and will take part in tours and recordings and will be a regular presence with the orchestra throughout the year. He will be entrusted with strengthening the position of the orchestra as a leading international chamber orchestra and continuing to support and develop its exemplary social initiatives.

With its 43 full-time musicians, l'Orchestre de chambre de Paris has established itself as the leading chamber orchestra in France. In the 2014/2015 season, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris will be the only permanent Parisian musical ensemble to offer concerts throughout Paris, at the new Philharmonie, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Salle Cortot and Théâtre 13/Seine.
The Orchestre de Chambre de Paris has a strong sense of social responsibility and coordinates an innovative and ambitious programme of cultural activities, particularly in the north-eastern outskirts of Paris.
