Fantasy film gems come to Sitges

City of Barcelona - 10/2/2014 12:00:10 PM

The 47th edition of the festival will be opening with the long-awaited 'REC 4' and featuring a programme of films that include Jean-Luc Godard's Adieu au langage and Maps to the Stars. The festival, which will feature a new section devoted to Latin America, will be paying homage to the German director, producer and script-writer, Roland Emmerich and to the actors Antonio Banderas and María Kosty, and, as part of Brigadoon, the recently deceased actor Álex Angulo.

The International Catalan Fantasy Film Festival is back, one of the must events for lovers of new audio-visual languages. The 47th edition takes place between 3 and 12 October, with some of the gems of fantasy cinema that have triumphed worldwide.

Jaume Balagueró's long-awaited REC 4 will be opening the festival, while Musarañas, produced by Álex de la Iglesia, and Damián Szifrón's Relatos Salvajes, will also feature on the programme. Tickets will go out on sale on Tuesday 23 September: at 10 am for Premium audiences and 12 for the general public, on its webpage.

One of this edition's notable names is Jean-Luc Godard, with his latest work, Adieu au langage, where this new wave genius experiments with 3-D film, packed with metaphors. David Cronenberg, with a top-notch cast that includes Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson and John Cusack, will be joining the festival with Maps to the Stars, a decadent take of the cinema industry.

Latin American Cinema
The festival will be seeing a new cross-sectional feature, called Blood Window, joining up with its other dozen sections. Among these, followed strongly by such genre classics , as William Friedkin's Sorcerer; and, for the second year running, such television series, as Fargo, whose sneak preview will be given a day before, Game of Thrones and Gotham.

Notable awards

The festival will be giving an award to the German director, producer and script-writer, Roland Emmerich, a great representative of action and disaster films; as well as the actors Antonio Banderas, who will be receiving a Honorary Grand Award for his cinema career, and María Kosty, who will be given the Nosferatu Prize. What's more, the Brigadoon section will be paying homage to the recently deceased actor Álex Angulo.
